A Love For Journaling

journal“All writers are observers, fascinated with human goings-on, but journal writers are a special breed, I think, suspicious of their own memories, like tourists taking snapshots of everything they see.”  -Robin Hemley

I saw this quote on the back of a journal in a small crafts shop yesterday when I was at Shopping Vila Olímpia and thought it was so true. I’ve been writing journals since I was 11 or 12 years old, albeit less and less frequently over the years, but I think it’s probably one of the best things I could have ever done for myself. It’s one of the most amazing ways to relieve stress, better understand yourself, capture precious memories, and also solve problems through critical thinking and deep pondering. There is no other feeling to describe how I feel when I read entries from nearly 10 years ago, and imagine if I am able to potentially give these memories to my future children or grandchildren? I always love hearing stories from my parents and grandparents about their childhoods, and I think that is one of the most special gifts to share. A goal of mine is to continue to write and keep journals long into my old and senile days 😉
